Wasanga means “let’s discuss” in the Babessi language in the North-West region of Cameroon. Let us discuss indeed about education in this rural area where children face hurdles in their basic level education and where furthering education into secondary school and high school is harder than everywhere. These youth deserve the same chances like children everywhere around the world. We believe that to change mentalities and empower will be through education.
Cameroon suffers from high illiteracy rates and these rates are even higher in the rural areas. Wasanga targets girls particular in this rural context in order to give them a chance in life. There is a stark contrast between the West where everything is evolving very fast and the rural area around Babessi where literacy is hard to achieve.
